Mojiko Retro is a new, yet nostalgic part of town in the Kitakyushu area. 300,000 lights on the retro-style buildings and 100 trees lining the streets are lit, making for quite a romantic evening.

At the old Moji Mitsui Club building, built in 1921 and now designated as a “national important cultural property,” the glittering “Symbol Tree” makes its appearance. Who’s responsible for such a gorgeous display? World-famous lighting designer Ishii Motoko. The phantasmagoric play of light and shadow in what is billed as the Mojiko Retro Night Fantasy is like a scene from a movie.

Setting out from the Mojiko docks on the pleasure boats, you can see the brilliant illumination from the water. Walking the streets is one way of enjoying the scene, but watching from a boat being gently lapped by the waves is great, too.

On the weekends, Seinan Jo Gakuin University Junior College’s handbell choir performs and the Moji Youth Girls Ensemble has a Christmas concert. Whether you are with family, friends or a loved one, do consider taking advantage of the beautiful Mojiko Retro nights together with some wonderful music.

懐かしくて新しい街、門司港レトロ。ライトアップされたレトロな建築物と街路樹約100本を彩る30万球のイルミネーションがロマンチックな夜を演出します。

大正10年に建てられ国の重要文化財に指定されている旧門司三井倶楽部には、光煌めくシンボルツリーが登場し、ゴージャスな雰囲気を醸し出しています。世界的に有名な照明デザイナー石井幹子氏による光と影の演出「門司港レトロ・ナイトファンタジー」の幻想的世界は、まるで映画のワンシーンの様です。

また、門司港の桟橋からは遊覧船が出ており、海上からキラキラ輝くイルミネーションを見ることが出来ますので、街を散策するだけでなくナイトクルージングで波に揺られながら眺めるのもいいですね。

週末には西南女学院大学・短大ハンドベルクワイヤーによるハンドベルの演奏や、門司少年少女合唱団によるクリスマスコンサートもありますので、是非ご家族やカップルで門司港レトロのファンタジックな夜を、素敵な音楽と共にお楽しみください。
